Looking for music lessons in Lawrenceville?
Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music is a local music and arts school in Lawrenceville offering lessons for students of many ages, backgrounds, and learning styles.
Founded by Valencia Giles, the school teaches more than music. Their approach is centered on helping students build confidence, discipline, and a sense of purpose through piano, guitar, violin, voice, art lessons, performances, and mentorship opportunities.
What stood out to us is how personal the mission is. Valencia described the school’s model as rooted in love, with great musicianship as the goal. That comes through in the way they hire teachers, pair students with instructors, and think about each child as more than just a weekly lesson.
Why We Featured Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music
Gwinnett Spotlight featured Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music because of the heart behind the school and the intentional way Valencia and her team serve families.
This is not a place that treats lessons like a transaction. Valencia shared that character comes first when hiring teachers, with education and experience also playing an important role. The school looks for people who are motivated by care, patience, and purpose.
They also pay close attention to the full experience for families, from clear communication and policies to cleanliness, security cameras, observation windows, and thoughtful teacher-student matching based on each child’s learning style.
The Story Behind the Business
Valencia Giles’ story with music started at a young age. She received a piano around age seven and later went to college on a music scholarship. But after years of insecurity and painful experiences, she walked away from music after graduation.
Years later, after being asked to teach a music class at church, Valencia discovered that teaching children was a gift she did not fully realize she had. After another difficult setback, she made the decision to work for herself.
The school began in a garage built out by her father, growing from one student to two students to around 30 students. Later, when her mother moved in after a stroke, Valencia and her husband moved the school out of the house and into a small building. She borrowed $5,000 from her uncle, paid it back within a year, and continued building the school with strong financial convictions.
Today, the school has grown far beyond where it started, but the heart of the work has stayed the same: helping students grow through music, confidence, discipline, and care.

What Makes Them Different
What makes Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music different is the way they see students.
Valencia shared that parents often come in asking for piano or guitar lessons, but what they may really be looking for is confidence, discipline, order, academic growth, or someone who understands how to work with an active child without labeling them negatively.
The school also works to match students with teachers based on learning style. A very active four-year-old may need a different type of instructor than a middle school student, and the school tries to understand both the student and the teacher well enough to make those matches thoughtfully.
Their mission goes beyond weekly lessons. The school emphasizes life lessons, confidence-building, performances, mentorship, and a loving environment where students can feel seen.
